Ecomotel background

Caring for you and the environment

Our Story

Port Augusta is a significant stop-over point for both business and recreational travellers. The Crossroads Ecomotel is situated on Highway One, about 100m from the main junction where the Eyre Highway intersects with the Stuart Highway (just opposite the Shell Service Station as you enter Port Augusta coming from Perth or Darwin). It offers travellers affordable, comfortable modern accommodation developed with principles of environmental and social responsibility.

The owners background in International Development where social and environmental issues often take priority was the inspiration for building an environmentally and socially responsible motel. Ecomotel is built with natural products and improved building technologies to reduce our carbon footprint and ongoing energy use. Environmentally friendly features include;

  • Passive solar design
  • Energy efficient buildings (a combination of rammed earth for temperature stability and Structural Insulated foam Panels (SIPs) and double glazing for insulation and soundproofing, large eves for shading)
  • Heat Pumps with continuous flow technology so no wasting water while waiting for the hot water to arrive
  • LED lighting
  • Arid smart garden supplied by rain water
  • Solar panels
  • Environmentally friendly cleaning products and bathroom amenities
  • Up-cycled leather lounges

Ecomotel aims to honor Aboriginal culture and its unique relationship with nature and mirror this in the use of natural products and minimal imprint on the environment as well as providing employment for people of aboriginal heritage.

Being environmentally responsible does not have to compromise quality and the four star standard rooms are comfortable and modern, clean and quiet with all the amenities of home. Come inside and see for yourself!
